The room was dark and still. Soft music from a phoenix came from the room next door. A soft sigh rose from the bed that was in the corner near the double doors that lead to the balcony. An elderly Elf sat there looking at the window, wondering how much longer she would live.

"I thought we were supposed to live forever, brother." Her voice was soft as she whispered to another who stood by the door that lead to next room.

"We are, sister, but there comes a time when our souls tire of the body we have now." He gave a rough sounding laugh. He too was an Elf, yet he showed very little sign of it. "You know that, Shadow."

She sighed, "Of course, Joseph. Although, I wish that I could live in this body for a while longer," She paused, "Don't you?"

Joseph "swaggered" over to where his sister sat. "Of course, I'm a bloody Dragon Pirate! Why wouldn't I want to live in this body for quite some time longer?" He smirked. "Of course, I'm supposed to live longer than you, after all."

Shadow rolled her eyes. He was only half-dragon, half-elf. It was a myth that Dragons lived longer than the Elves, but it wasn't true. They lived as long as Elves did, and vice versa.

"I'm serious, Joseph. We have possessions we cannot just leave here and wait for 'us' to pick them up again. They'll be stolen or lost in the next several hundred years or so as the world changes around them. We've got to do something while we're still alive." Shadow snapped.

Joseph sighed as he sat down on the bed. "Yeah, I know," He paused as the phoenix called softly to another in the front room. "And we have the birds to worry about."

There was silence for a moment. While neither of them said anything, they knew each was thinking one thing; the Blackwing-flame name and legacy must be carried on. Without that name, anybody they took would die too quickly. Of course, they must be born again as twins as well.

"This is becoming much more complicated that it should be." Joseph muttered.

"The only thing we can do is give our name to someone and ask the Gods to grant us the favor they owe us." Shadow sighed.

Joseph glanced over at his sister. "How do you propose we do that?" he asked, "And how long will we be floating in the Heavens waiting for a set of twins to come along strong enough to hold our souls?"

Shadow stood and walked to the double doors that lead outside to her balcony. She opened the doors and stood out on the elegantly carved ledge that seemed like it was part of the tree it was attached to. She stood there silently for several moments before saying softly, "I'm going to the Seer. Maybe she can tell us what this place will look like in a thousand years or so, or where we can place our possessions so we can find them later."

Joseph shook his head. "She's just as old as us, Shadow. What makes you think she'll see anything clearly this time?"

"Because, Joseph, we're not done with our lives and neither is she. She will be able to see what the future holds because I'm almost certain it involves her as well." Shadow growled quietly.

Joseph was silent. After a minute, he stood and walked over so he stood next to his sister. He was several inches taller, even in his older age. His golden dragon-like eyes both contrasted and complimented Shadow's own icy blue-green eyes. He nodded, "Alright. If you're that sure you want to do this then let's go."

Shadow looked up and smiled at her brother, her youth shining through. "Thank you, Joseph. I'm glad you're going to stick with me."

Joseph laughed. "Of course I'll stick with you; you're my sister after all. I can't just leave you behind." He pulled his sister into a crushing hug. "Even when this life ends, I will not leave you even then."

Shadow grinned as she hugged him back. Of course, he wouldn't leave. He would be with her, just as she would be with him, even if they didn't see eye to eye. It had been that way for years and years, so why should it be any different now?
Based off of a Roleplay one of my friends and I did back in High School. I am Shadow, and he, of course, is Joseph.

I may or may not eventually scrap this/add more. Depends on the reader response
